Getting ready for winter

If you are wondering why I haven’t posted anything in so long, and/or whether I have ceased to exist entirely, there have been some issues. The truth is, from my perspective, the world looks a lot like this:

We are in the process of picking up and moving the entire contents of our house, packing up one room and shifting everything in it to another room in a random and arbitrary fashion depending on spontaneous, externally-decided factors such as “ducts” and “vents”. Like Job, our world is unstable and torn asunder at unpredictable intervals. Each time we are forced to root out a new life from among the toppled laundry baskets and plastic storage containers. Luxuries we had become accustomed to—hanging a shirt in a bedroom closet, turning on a stereo and having sound come out of speakers—have become transitory and elusive.

For the first time in my adult life…for the first time in nearly 13 years of nuptial partnership …we are soon to live in a house with central heating.

Excuse me while I pause for a moment of silence to appreciate the magnitude of this household upgrade.

It is not much fun to write while wearing a dust mask. Plus, I need to go vacuum another pile of sheet rock scrapings.

  1. I'm excited! I'm still thawing my toes out from the last time I visited in the winter.

  3. Man you guys are always busting your butts around that place, I feel so *lazy* by comparison. I congratulate myself for raking up leaves!

  4. Well yes, busting butts would be an accurate description. But that path often leads to hip replacement, so I don't necessarily recommend it for everyone. But really, I'm just trying to keep up with the "manic gopher" around here (aka Popsey). It's futile to resist.

Anyways, he does generate quite a bit of heat through his hip motions, but it's only in the room he's in, so the other rooms get quite cold.
