109 and dreaming of snow

The thermometer reads 109 degrees. 5:05 pm. The day's not over yet. Unbelievable. This is the highest temperature in 36 years…pretty sure.

This picture was taken in cooler days, in March when we had...what's that look like, a whole inch of snow?

This is reminding me of one of my all-time favorite Twilight Zones. The one where the world is getting closer to the sun, it’s getting hotter and hotter, and they’re running out of water, and then the main character girl wakes up and it was a dream, and it’s the exact opposite in reality—the world is moving away from the sun and everything is freezing. They had a feeling about global warming back then.

We're huddling in the basement. Debated for hours about whether we should flee for the coast, but gave up when we realized the basement was better than the car.

Mooka took up one of her favorite hot-day pastimes this morning: trying to stop the water from spraying out of the spigot into the pond. Biting the water doesn't work at all, but gets a lot of tries anyways for fun’s sake. More effective is when she holds her whole mouth over the end until it makes bubbling noises and she can’t hold any more in her mouth. Today she discovered a whole new technique: jamming her nose into the spigot. Her eyes bugged out as the water was no doubt shooting up her nostrils.

Is it supposed to be cooler tomorrow?????
Well, at least the chicken won't take long to defrost.

I miss snow
